The Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP) and Total Spectrum are proud to announce the opening of the Glendale Learning Center, where kids with autism can receive comprehensive and specialized ABA therapy services.

The Glendale Learning Center aims to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that promotes learning, socialization, and independence. The center, located in a former chocolate factory in suburban Milwaukee, officially opened Oct. 18 with a ribbon cutting and open house.

“We’re hoping to bring families here in the Milwaukee County area compassionate, contemporary ABA services for children on the autism spectrum,” Managing Behavior Analyst Christina Murphy said at the event. “This new facility will allow us to provide one-on-one services in a group setting where kids can work on skills such as social skills, adaptive living skills, and communication skills — while building friendships.”

WEAP and Total Spectrum Open Glendale Autism Learning Center

The Glendale Learning Center is co-operated by WEAP and Total Spectrum — organizations that have a combined 35 years of experience serving children with autism across Wisconsin. They offer a comprehensive approach to evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment to help children reach their unique potential.

The opening of the Glendale Learning Center allowed families to meet the Glendale leadership team — Senior Clinical Director Heather Bania from WEAP and Clinical Director Brook Marcellis from Total Spectrum. The event included the North Shore Chamber of Commerce, tours of the facility, sensory-friendly fall-themed activities for families, and remarks from city leaders.

“I’ve been to a lot of ribbon cuttings lately,” Glendale Mayor Bryan Kennedy said. “It’s been really exciting to see how our local economy has rebounded from the pandemic, and we’ve seen so many new businesses open. But it’s really wonderful when it’s a new business like this that offers a very specialized service that really, truly meets the needs of those who need special care and special attention in the community.”

Partnership Focuses on Helping Kids With Autism Thrive

WEAP provides services for children up to age 6, and Total Spectrum provides services for children ages 6 and up. Together, they offer:

  • Comprehensive diagnostic evaluations
  • Center-based treatment
  • Home-based treatment programs
  • Social skills groups

The Glendale Learning Center is located at 4650 North Port Washington Road, Suite 10, Glendale, WI 53212. We proudly offer services to families residing in surrounding counties, including Jefferson, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Walworth, Washington, and Waukesha.

Together, they’re committed to making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and their families by delivering personalized services that address their unique needs and goals.

The opening of the Glendale Learning Center is a milestone. It underscores LEARN’s commitment to providing specialized treatment and support for kids with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It’s also about the community. The local collaboration between WEAP and Total Spectrum brings expertise and resources together. That will mean better treatment and better outcomes for every child in our care.

LEARN Behavioral Part of $4.7 Million Grant to Study Autism Intervention

Baltimore, MD — LEARN Behavioral is part of a multimillion-dollar grant to study autism intervention.

The National Institutes of Mental Health awarded the $4.7 million, five-year grant to researchers at the UC Davis MIND Institute (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders). LEARN was one of two ABA providers selected to help MIND Institute researchers study 300 children who receive therapy.

Researchers will test the effectiveness of the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) of treatment. ESDM is designed for children between the ages of 1 and 4. The innovative model teaches communication and play skills through everyday activities.

“This partnership will help us disseminate best practices amongst clinicians in our field, improve outcomes for kids, and enhance caregiver support and training,” says Jocelyn Thompson, LCSW, BCBA, Vice President of Clinical Services at LEARN Behavioral. “We hope it leads to the best care possible for those with autism and their families.”

The ESDM approach is different from other interventions. It is based on applied behavior analysis (ABA) and child development science. Instead of using traditional structured teaching techniques, ESDM focuses on meaningful interactions. These interactions are based on what the child is interested in. ESDM helps children learn and grow by making interventions feel like natural play.

The study will train behavior analysts in the ESDM approach. These analysts will then train behavior technicians in community agencies. The researchers will create videos called “micro-learnings” to help therapists learn best practices.

The MIND Institute team will train for three months. After that, they will have monthly meetings with agency supervisors. During the study, MIND researchers will observe the ESDM approach and make sure it’s done correctly. The study will record one session per month for each of the 300 children. Researchers will track their progress over a six-month period.

LEARN Behavioral and its partner agencies are committed to providing culturally sensitive care. The training will be available in English and Spanish. LEARN Behavioral aims to offer top intervention services for families with autism.

Autism Spectrum Therapies (AST) Opens New Learning Center in San Gabriel, CA

This past May, Autism Spectrum Therapies (AST) relocated and opened a new Learning Center in San Gabriel, California, offering compassionate contemporary applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy to children with autism in a center-based environment. Since 2001, AST has served the greater Los Angeles and San Gabriel communities through early intervention and ABA therapy in home-based settings and in partnership with schools.

The new San Gabriel Learning Center gives families who cannot access services in the home an option for their child to receive therapy in a safe, supportive, and learning-rich atmosphere. AST’s center-based services help children with autism learn the necessary skills to develop confidence and build friendships in a social setting. The San Gabriel Learning Center is currently enrolling preschool-aged children for daytime ABA services.

The Learning Center also offers seasonal social skills programs where children can participate in serious fun and serious learning alongside their peers. This July, the San Gabriel Learning Center will run it’s annual “Around the World Camp,” where students take a journey “around the world” with peers while enjoying arts and crafts featuring animals, flags, food, landmarks, maps, and more. Social skills programs give each child one-to-one support in a group setting while working on socialization, communication, and other skills that assist with growth and learning.

To celebrate the opening of our new Learning Center, we hosted an open house where the public and families were invited to visit our new facility, speak with our leadership team, and participate in a range of fun, carnival-themed activities. It was an enjoyable occasion that brought together the local autism community in San Gabriel and southern California. The event also featured an official ribbon-cutting ceremony presented by the San Gabriel Chamber of Commerce. Frank F. Lu, Field Deputy/AAPI Liaison, was also in attendance on behalf of Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L Solis’ office. We could not be more thankful for the warm welcome and support from the local business community and city officials. Our southern California team looks forward to serving the greater San Gabriel community for many years to come and is honored to nurture the unique potential in children with autism.

AST has proudly served families throughout California for 20 years and counting. We understand that every child has individual needs and interests, and we’re committed to providing tailored treatment that respects the unique needs, values, and cultures of every family we’re fortunate to help. Providing exceptional care and bringing positive outcomes for all children and families we serve is at the core of what we do at AST. We are steadfast in our mission of finding success for every child in our care through compassionate, contemporary ABA therapy.

AST offers ABA therapy in its Learning Centers, client homes, and school-based settings, as well as social skills, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and diagnostic services in various locations across eight states from California to Louisiana.

Autism Spectrum Therapies (AST) Opens Newly Rebranded Learning Center in Little Rock, AR

The rain couldn’t stop us from celebrating our newly rebranded Autism Spectrum Therapies (AST) Little Rock Learning Center. On Thursday, May 11th, we welcomed our staff, families, and the Little Rock business community members for an official open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony. This sensory-friendly “Splash into Summer” under the sea-themed event allowed children to participate in indoor and outdoor games and activities as parents toured the facility, met with the AST leadership team, and enjoyed refreshments.

The Little Rock Learning Center provides center-based applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy to children in a learning-rich environment where they can work on skills such as communication, socialization, and activities of daily living in a group setting with one-to-one support. Here, you can expect to see us on the floor, working through the context of play at children’s levels. Our team is delighted to share that we’re currently enrolling preschool-aged children for daytime ABA services at our Little Rock Learning Center located at 1509 North Pierce St., Little Rock, AR 72207.

Prior to 2023, the Little Rock community knew this location and ABA provider as the UP Autism Center. In 2022, UP Autism joined the LEARN Behavioral Family of Providers to bring more resources and the latest research in ABA and autism to Arkansas. As part of this partnership, UP Autism was rebranded to AST, one of LEARN’s flagship ABA providers in Arkansas and the country. For over 20 years, AST has provided compassionate, contemporary ABA therapy to help children and their families find success in school and life. AST’s services are tailored to the unique needs of each child and family and consider caregivers a core partner in their child’s care.

To celebrate our new look, members of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce helped officiate a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and a proclamation by Mayor Terry Hartwick was presented, marking May 11th, “Autism Spectrum Therapies Day.” We thank both chambers and Mayor Hartwick for their warm yet professional acknowledgment and for introducing us to other organizations with a mutual goal of helping families in need of autism services in our community.

We look forward to nurturing the unique potential in children with autism and helping more families in the greater Little Rock area in the years to come by providing “serious fun and serious learning.” As Assistant Clinical Director Angel Dunlap says, “At AST, we believe the best learning occurs when having fun. We incorporate structured play opportunities into our sessions while teaching skills in an environment where children can thrive.”
